"The Dugout cafe re-union was organized by the Busy Bee motorcycle club
and the Rocketeer. The Dugout cafe was established in 1919 and it has been
open ever since. It is located in the small one way service road called Saint
Albans Lane which is behind North End Road and it is off West Heath Drive.
This is the first time that the cafe has had a rockers re-union..It was very
well organised by the Busy Bee boys and the Rocketeer and it truly gave the
impression that you were back in the 1960's.
The cafe is open for business Monday to Friday 7am til 3pm, and weekends 7am
till 2 pm.
Now for a bit of personal info..in all the years that I use to hang out in
Golders Green in the past I never knew about the cafe. When I did find out
that there used to be an underground cafe in Golders Green I just assumed
it must of been the underground bar by the bridge in Finchley Road which in
the 1970's was called "The Tardis" due to the fact that the entrance
was through a police phone box. I use to catch a bus there when I was banned
from driving back in 1977 by the Tardis. Maybe some of the rockers went there
as well in the 60's. Can anyone give any info about
this at all ?
It is strange that I didn't ever notice the Dugout as I often used this small
road in the 1970's as a cut through on my bike,
but I suppose that's because by the 1970's, pubs had taken over from the cafes
so I had no reason to stop there.
Now for a coincidence...the guy that now owns the Dugout used to live in the
same house that my step sister now lives in at West Heath Drive"
